It's true, thanks to Michael Lewis, I can now tell you what a Credit Default Swap is. The only problem is, I get so angry talking about this topic that it's really best if you just ask me about my favorite novels instead. The fact that Wall Street is back to business as usual while we here on Congress Street are still feeling the effects of the financial crisis makes me crazy.
The Big Short just hit number one on the New York Times bestseller list, and we are excited to be co-hosting Michael Lewis at The Music Hall on April 7th as part of the Writers On A New England Stage series.

Lately, I've been scanning my books into LibraryThing, a website where you can keep track of your personal library. This is a very time-consuming project when you have 11 bookcases and books stuffed into your closet, tucked into the bedside nightstand, piled on top of the dining room table, and, well, you get the picture. I've even been tempted to use my dog's crate for shelf space (kidding, I think!). When you own as many books as I do, it becomes difficult to remember what you already have bought, and so I'm hoping with my new system in place that once I'm finally finished scanning what I currently have, it will be easier to figure things out.

Sometimes I think the entire staff is in one of hamster wheels just running and running and running to stand still. One of the ways we strive to be competitive is to offer interesting events with fantastic authors. I'm proud to say that we are breaking new ground in that area every day.
We have been able to bring, through relentless hard work, authors to our little town that normally only appear in big cities. Combined with all the great readers and writers that live right here in Portsmouth these events help make the Seacoast a virtual hotbed of literary excitement. The Palahniuk event that we just announced is a real coup; his schedule includes only eight cities, and the other seven all have a population of over 1 million people.
