Seacoast Local and the (H)EAT Campaign

Help the Seacoast Local (H)EAT Campaign raise $50,000 this winter for home heating and food assistance.

Local businesses support local community.  RiverRun is very proud of the fact that 2% of every sale we make goes to charity.  It doesn't sound like a lot, but in 2008 we will give more than $20,000 to local non-profits that work on issues of housing and homelessness.  Not only that, but we give out countless Gift Cards throughout the year for charity auctions, school prizes, and all sorts of things.  And the thing is, we're not special.  It's just what local businesses do.  In fact, independently owned, local businesses give 2 to 3 times more to local charities as a percentage of sales than national chains do.  That's just one of the reasons why we urge you to shop local whenever you can.  Find out more at Seacoast Local.

Home heating assistance.  Food delivery.  Local Businesses coming together.

If you go to the (H)EAT website, you'll see what the campaign is all about.  We've got events scheduled throughout the winter including live music shows at The Press Room, a 5k run on New Year's Day, and a Wine Tasting/Bachelor Auction.  You can also make a donation online at the site using PayPal.  Over 30 local businesses in Portsmouth and Kittery are collecting money on their counters and selling T-shirts, buttons, and stickers.  Keep your eye out for the bright yellow logo and help your fellow Portsmouth and Kittery residents stay warm this winter.

No oil in my furnace!

Ironically, we woke up to a cold house this morning.  Through a bureaucratic glitch, our oil tank had run dry.  We rushed into Flannery's room to make sure she was alright. It was only 50 degrees in there, but she was fine!  Anyway, as I prepared later in the afternoon to be interviewed by WMUR television about the (H)EAT Campaign, I thought about my early morning panic and it made me really glad that we are making this campaign happen.  It feels good to help people.  Donate, and find out.
